The Dallas Cowboys are facing a significant need at the running back position after Tony Pollard departed for the Tennessee Titans in free agency, leaving them with limited options in the backfield. With only Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke currently under contract for next season, the Cowboys are considering bringing back Ezekiel Elliott, who was released last season in a cap-saving move.

Despite an underwhelming performance with the New England Patriots last season, Elliott could still contribute to a running back committee. Patrick Walker of DallasCowboys.com suggests that a reunion with Elliott is a possibility.

"I wouldn't rule out a possible reunion with Ezekiel Elliott (and then also drafting an RB to tandem)," Walker wrote on X.

"His relationship with the Cowboys is still positive and the dialogue has remained open."

Despite the amicable nature of his departure from Dallas after seven seasons, Elliott remains close with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, which could influence a potential return.

"That's like my little brother, a best friend obviously," Prescott said last season.

"We came into this thing together and grew on the field and off the field. It was awesome. Obviously, it was unfortunate for him to go play for another team, but it's part of this business.

"We learn that pretty quick and seeing it when we had to part, it's part of it. Happy for him, always pulling for him."

Other running back options

However, the Cowboys may also explore other options, including former Packer running back AJ Dillon, who has been reliable over the past three seasons. The Cowboys will likely need to bolster their running back depth through the draft or remaining free agents to complement any potential signings.
