The “quiet” Beatle, lead guitarist George Harrison, died of lung cancer on this day in 2001.
He joined the Quarrymen at age 15 and after the Beatles’ breakup continued songwriting, recording (solo and with the Traveling Wilburys), film production (including nothing less than Monty Python’s “Life of Brian”) and other creative pursuits in an otherwise quiet life in the English countryside.
Harrison’s only child, Dhani, helped complete his father’s final album and a tribute concert after his death. Dhani has an L.A. band with a sound of its own and helped develop The Beatles: Rock Band for Xbox.
